Vietnam — felt, not toured.

Mekong Day Tour
The Mekong Delta begins where Saigon's traffic loosens, about two hours south of the city. Wide rivers split into narrower arms, the arms split into canals, and the canals lead to villages that live by the water rather than the road.
What a day tour from Saigon covers
A standard day routes through My Tho or Ben Tre, with time on a larger boat, a transfer to a sampan for the smaller canals, and stops at family workshops — coconut candy, rice paper, honey — that have been part of the delta economy for generations.
Rhythm, not checklist
The delta rewards a slower pace. We treat the day as a series of pauses rather than a list of sights: a meal at a riverside kitchen, a walk through a coconut grove, time on the sampan with the engine off.
Best done with a local
Mekong tourism has its share of rushed, generic loops. A local guide chooses which workshops to skip, which family kitchens still cook the old way, and how to read the river traffic without staging it for a camera.
